Apply for Surface Designer Position

JOB DUTIES: Work with Development and Machine technicians to design, render, and produce multiple new automotive textile designs. Research factors influencing product design such as cost, selection of materials, production methods, new technology, safety, fashion trends, ergonomics, environment, marketing and business strategy. Create and modify welding, jacquard top stitch, and perforation design patterns. Work with engineers to develop designs that meet the automotive testing requirements. Coordinate with and understand design concepts of OEM designers that supply all automakers. This position requires 10% domestic and international travel.

HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday

REQUIREMENTS

MAIN EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelors of Science in Textile Practice, Textile Design, Textile Science or a closely related field of study and three (3) years of experience as a Surface Designer, Textile Designer or a closely related occupation.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Also requires three (3) years of experience in the following:

  • Automotive textile design concepts using Adobe Photoshop, ZSK Digitizing Software, and proprietary Rich Peace design software;
  • Adobe Illustrator (Ai) to create vector file patterning specialized for surface design embellishments;
  • Understanding of multiple base materials including but not limited to Suede, PVC, and traditional textiles;
  • Ned Graphics to create woven textile design software translating vector file and patterns woven into structures;
  • ZSK Embroidery (EPC WIN) Software to translate vector files into designs for quilting and embroidery, entering data needed to translate into machine file;
  • ZSK Embroidery RACER 2XL Prototype Machine using control panels to enter files and program correct settings; and
  • ZSK Industrial 10 Head RACER Embroidery Machine independently operating a 10 head industrial production sewing machine used for prototyping and upscaling designs into large scale manufacturing.
